What “AI Readiness” Really Looks Like in a SaaS Team

We talk a lot about AI readiness. But what does it look like in real life? Today, I’m sharing a story from one of our clients. A real example of how small steps can lead to big shifts.
How it started
When this SaaS company started thinking about Customer Health, the first question was "how" to measure it. But the question they should have been asking was "why" measure it.
They already had ideas for a health score, but no shared goal, no clear link between metrics and business outcomes.
Together, we reframed the challenge: Customer Health is not dashboard work. It’s a system for action — a way to connect signals teams get with what they actually do.
So we didn’t start with data models. We started with an Action Model.
How it worked
- We began with the Customer Journeys, not the metrics and dashboards.
- We used what already existed: CRM data, team knowledge, customer calls.
- We built structure before automation.
Now, customer calls are automatically recorded and transcribed. From each call, a sales signal is generated when an opportunity emerges (still manually reviewed today, but with a clear path toward AI support later on).
The system learns as it goes, connecting actions and feedback in a continuous loop.
The results
Kick-off in April. Revenue impact by summer.
Within just a few weeks, the effects were tangible.
No radical transformation, no expensive new platform subscriptions, no months-long IT project, binding valuable resources. Just smart augmentation “on the go”.
The team now works more data-aware, more focused, more connected. AI hasn’t taken the stage yet, but the foundation is solid.
Next step
Integrating finance data to link customer engagement even more clearly to business value.
This turns an operational tool into a strategic management system — aligning Customer Success, Sales, and Leadership around the same signals.
The real lesson
AI readiness isn’t about "adopting" AI... It’s about building the capacity to act intelligently — creating structures that link learning, doing, and deciding. And it starts with human readiness.
